Happy October 1st! A new month has arrived and if youāre anything like me, you are anxiously awaiting for Susan Miller to upload your horoscope to her website, even though you too donāt believe in horoscopes.
Donāt kill me for this oneā but Iām very happy that summer has come and gone. It was nice while it lasted and yes I loved the heirloom tomatoes and corn and scallops and blah blah but soup/sweater season in NYC is just absolutely superior. Fall is my spirit animal because you can walk for miles and feel the wind beneath your wings and not be sweaty and wear a beanie on a bad hair day! Itās crisp and itās bubbly and there is a certifiable spark of change in the air. Zap. I could write prose to no end, and you know I will, but first: fashion calls.
Autumn is here and that means Iām packing away the shorts and the gauzy linen, the sandals, the the crop tops. Out comeā¦ well, to be honest not much because I live in a NYC apartment and the closet situation is dire. I constantly have to Marie Kondo the sh*t out of my clothing and get rid of all which does not spark me joy or whatever.
Anyways, out come the pleather pants (lol) and the chunky knit sweaters. The corduroy, the merino wool, the jewel tones.
My fall uniform (as of the last 4 days) is as follows: layering shirt + baggy pants + utility jacket + cozy socks + cool shoes and maybe a scarf. Iām very happy with how it looks and even better is that it feels like a pajama.
The Jacket
A green utility jacket is an absolute must. The one I have from Whistles is unfortunately sold out, but this one is very similar. Here are two more great alternatives:
Madewell Military Shirt Jacket, a hard yes.
OāNeill California Army Jacket, for the girl who wishes she were in L.A right now.
Long Sleeve Shirt
The absolute best classic, crewneck long sleeve shirts I have found to date are these, from Splendid, which happen to be 30% off. Soft, not sheer, and just the right length to wear tucked in or tucked out.
Blanket Scarf
If you donāt have a blanket scarf, do you even autumn? š The one pictured is no longer available, it was Something Navy at Nordstrom, but Iāve found other great options for ya, all by Free People.
The Pants
Remember when we all used to wear skinny jeans? RIP skinny jeans (2010-2020). Today we are going to make a change people. Put away the skin tight denim and trade it in for a baggy flair that makes you a tiny bit nervous. The Great makes incredible pants, and their Ranger Pant (pictured above in plaid) is justā¦ perfectionā¦ and sadly sold out. It has a tiny bit of a drop crotch, which is not something I thought I could pull off, but Iām kind of happy with them? If youāre feeling this look, try:
The Socks
I donāt know when camp socks became trendy but I am here for it. Mine are from J.Crew and Iāve worn/washed/loved them for two years now. They are thick so beware, you canāt pair them with any tight shoes. Aside from sneakers. I like to wear them with these Nordic boots, but weāll save that look for a colder month.
The Sneakers
My pictured glittery sneakers are Golden Goose- a present from my mom a few years ago. Shoes are our absolute favorite thing to splurge on, and I have no logic, ration or reason here so just pardon me. Here are two others that I reco:
If you donāt want glitter, then go for these platform canvas sneakers. I love them so very much,
I also adore these monochromatic New Balance sneakers, which seem made for the camp socks
I know this letter was a little different than my usual content, so thanks for allowing me to put on my fashion blogger hat for a moment and indulging me. If you want to send me some feedback, good or bad, I welcome it wholeheartedly.
The biggest hugs,
Jane
I LOVE your selfie - and I love that look on Maui's face in the background!! Fall/Autumn is my all time favorite season as well, for all the same reasons... I love sweaters, I love soups, I love walking when I'm not swealteringly hot... and I love the colors! Even though the 'Bruise Pallet' (black, blue, purple and yellow green) suit my coloring, I still insist on Autumn Leaves for my fall outfits. Unlike you, I just get a storage unit for the off season... it ALL sparks joy for me!! ;)
Love you Jane!!
ps... admit it, you all... who DOESN'T read their horoscope!!
